I have suffered from chronic upper back pain for more than 14 years. I was diagnosed with a slight degeneration of the spine but conventional medicine wasn’t able to reduce or eliminate the pain.
Of the many things I have tried to alleviate the pain nothing really worked. Painkillers, muscle relaxants, cortisone injections, physiotherapy, exercises, muscle training, Shiatsu and massage, acupuncture and TENS machine only gave me moderate and temporary relief.
In November 2008 I came across Nick’s Alexander practice and thought I would give Alexander technique a try. Nick was very sympathetic and we decided to work together. Due to the severity of the problem, I went to see him twice a week. It needed a lot of dedication from both of us to shift the unhelpful patterns that were ingrained in my body. I enjoyed the lessons as Nick has a way of making learning fun and the conversation never dries up either.
Gradually the tension started to decrease and I experienced less and less pain days. While I still get pain occasionally, the pain is now less severe and I find that I am able to relax and ease the pain by practising Alexander technique on my own.
I would have never imagined that I would be feeling as good as I am feeling today. If it wasn’t for Nick’s help I would still be suffering a lot! I can really recommend Nick as Alexander teacher. If you suffer from pain and you think you have tried everything, try Nick!
The Alexander Technique has been of inestimable value to me for the last 20 years. Without it, I might well be crippled with bad posture and arthritis. I cannot recommend it too highly.
The Alexander Technique is a technique of body reeducation and coordination, accomplished through physical and psychological principles. The technique is for the alleviation of back pain, rehabilitation after accidents, improving breathing, playing musical instruments, singing, acting and stress.
