What is the Alexander Technique

Just look at those hands!

F M Alexander was born in 1869 and developed the technique because he lost his voice as a professional actor. He soon realised it was not a medical problem but the way he used his voice.

Alexander realised that much of what goes wrong with us is actually caused by the way we do things. The simple example is the person lifting a plant pot who pulls a muscle.

It is not only that the pot was lifted badly, but that the person’s condition over time had so deteriorated, that the plant pot became the straw that broke the camel’s back.

To a certain extent we are all suffering in this way. Alexander Technique helps us to run better and to develop our faculties bringing about more freedom of movement and improved general well being.

Using the technique leads to improved motor skills and greater happiness.

So apply it to your work, rest, and play!
